Birmingham Midland Institute
Information
A Membership Organisation (although open to anyone) in the centre of Birmingham, with a modest annual subscription.
It has a comprehensive library, with over 6,000 biographies and 18th century volumes among the collection. The BMI has also recently received a bequest of the library of Mr Robert Deeley comprising books on architecture, church history, landscape and archaeology and topography. They also own a run of the satirical magazine “The Owl”.
The BMI hosts a series of weekly lectures and concerts in term time and houses a cafe. It provides a quiet place to work in the centre of the city with long opening hours.
NB The library collection has not been digitised so there is only a card index.
