Dr John Hinks

John Hinks is Visiting Reader in Printing History and Culture at BCU, and an Honorary Research Fellow in the Centre for Midlands History and Cultures at the University of Birmingham. He is the founder and Co-ordinator of HoPIN: the History of the Printed Image Network, and a series editor of the 'Printing History and Culture' series of essay collections and monographs, published by Peter Lang Ltd.

John’s research and publications focus on the history of print culture and the book trade, especially in the Midlands, and on the history of the printed image. His doctoral research (Loughborough University, 2002) focused on the history of printing and the book trade in Leicester until c.1850. He worked on the AHRC-funded ‘British Book Trade Index’ project at the University of Birmingham from 2002 to 2005. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society in 2022.
