For sale

FOR SALE: 150 original copper plates [many very large], plus many smaller woodblocks, dating from the early 1800’s up to the early 1900s, and even later if by an important printmaker. For example:

  • Frank short: two or three copper plates

  • John Platt: several woodblocks

  • Blair Hughes-Stanton: an important woodblock 'Composition' or 'Creation' 1936

  • Frank Brangwyn: Barnard Castle Bridge Somewhat poor condition, but gives a decent print. 55 x 42 cms. Etched zinc plate

  • John Clark: ten 'Views of Scottish Towns' published by Smith & Elder between 1822 and 1825. These are large copper plates [48 x 63 cms] in excellent condition. Of towns such as Aberdeen, St. Andrews, Peerth, Glasgow, Inverness.

  • Cries of London: Six of what I believe are the original copper plates [there were so many copies made over the years] for this highly popular series. Various engravers after Wheatley. 1793-1797.

  • Two sets of 'Cock Fighting' copper plates, four and six plates, Each plate about 23 x 28 cms.

  • Two war plates, aquatint copper plates. Approx 50 x 65 cms. Engraved by Harris after Henry Martens, published 1847 and 1849. Charge of the Light Dragoons at the Battle of Ferozshuhur, and The Battle of Feroshah, 2cnd Day, December 22, 1845

  • George Washington and Martha Washington After Gilbert Stuart engraved by Norman Hirst 1931. Mezzotints 30 x 39 cms. Published by Frost and Red

  • View of Montreal. Aquatint. c. 1860

  • The Rubber Engraved by Lamb Stocks after Thomas Webster. A wonderful engraving [51 x 61 cms plate] 1851.

Plus about 200 or more smaller copper plates, woodblocks and photogravures of various subjects such as Rawson's stores, Birmingham, some beautiful small woodcuts by Dorothy Bayley of Devon, Harry Banks, Huardel-Bly and some beautiful etchings of London reminiscent of the work of Whistler, etc etc.
