A visit to the Edward Clark Collection on the history of printing and typography at Edinburgh Napier University has been arranged for Friday 9 May 2025 at 2.30pm for the Printing Heritage Group.
Edward Clark was the Managing Director of R & R Clark, the renowned Edinburgh book printers. He took an interest in education for printers for many years, and was involved the Edinburgh Typographia from the 1890s. When he died in 1926, a legacy under his will provided for the refurbishment of the Printing Department at Heriot-Watt College and for the purchase of books to create the library on the history of printing and typography for the use of printing apprentices. The department and the collection moved to Napier College of Technology in the 1960s and the collection remains in the care of the Heritage Collections staff there. There's more background and a few highlights from the collection on the Edward Clark website.
The visit will be led by Laura Cooijmans-Keizer, Heritage Collections Librarian at Edinburgh Napier University. To book your place please email scotlandsprintingheritage@gmail.com
