Georgina Grant

National Museums of Scotland

Regional Representative for Scotland

Georgina is Curator of Technology at National Museums Scotland. She is responsible for a broad collection which includes material relating to industry, engineering and communications. Highlights within the communications section include a Columbian printing press made by D. & J. Greig, Edinburgh, c.1865; a rotary printing press invented by Thomas Nelson Jr., Edinburgh, and exhibited at the 1851 Great Exhibition; and over 20,000 woodblocks that were used by the Scottish publishers W. & R. Chambers. Her research interests within the collection lie in Victorian printing machinery and the production and use of wood engravings. Prior to National Museums Scotland, Georgina was Senior Curator at the Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust. During that time, she developed a particular interest in nineteenth century iron foundry production, with a focus on architectural ironwork and associated trade catalogues. In 2021-22 she completed a Headley Fellowship with Art Fund on the subject.
