To celebrate 160 years of printing at Smails and 40 years since National Trust for Scotland took over the care of the printworks on behalf of the nation, Robert Smail’s are delighted to present: Old New Tech: 160 years and still printing an Anniversary Lecture by Dr Helen S. Williams, discussing 160 years of letterpress printing in Innerleithen, and the wider context of letterpress printing in Scotland.
This is an online event livestreamed from the Machine Room at Robert Smail's Printing Works on Friday 2 October at 7pm (19.00 GMT /BST) in collaboration with Heriot Watt University.

About the Speaker:
Dr Helen S. Williams first encountered letterpress printing during her librarianship course. In 2008 she was the Programme Manager for the celebration of 500 years of printing in Scotland in 2008 and has been a Trustee of the Scottish Printing Archival Trust (now known as Scotland's Printing Heritage) since then. As Honorary Edward Clark Fellow at Edinburgh Napier University, she researches print production technologies and the people who work in the printing industry. She has worked for the London Library, the British Library and the National Library of Scotland, and was the first Librarian to the Library of Mistakes.
