Dr Martin Perkins

Martin Perkins is a teacher, performer, and researcher specialising in the historical performance of music of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. He is a senior lecturer and Head of Historical Performance at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, BCU. His research interests are diverse and involve critical editing of music, organology (as curator of the Conservatoire’s Historical Instrument Collection), musical performance practice and the social history of music in eighteenth-century Britain. He has published articles, book chapters and music editions, and co-edited (with Simon Fleming) a book on ‘Music by Subscription: Composers and their Networks in the British Music-Publishing Trade, 1676–1820’.
